Australian Vietnamese Family Association (AVFA)

The Australian Vietnamese Family Association (AVFA) is a non-profit organization that focuses on bringing the Vietnamese-Australian community residing in the Northern Territory together. Our primary goal is to enhance the quality of life for Vietnamese migrants by addressing the challenges they face in settling in Australia.

  • TET - Vietnamese New Year 2024

    Supported by the Northern Territory Government, the city of Palmerston, and the Consulate General of Vietnam in Western Australia and Northern Territory, this vibrant event is open to the public, inviting everyone to join us in celebrating the rich traditions of Tet and the diverse cultures of North, South, and Central Vietnam!

    Lantern Festival 2023

    The Vietnamese Lantern Festival is a celebration in the middle of autumn. Families in Vietnam look forward to the Mid-Autumn Festival (Tết Trung Thu) all year long. Some traditions are unique to the Vietnamese Mid-autumn Festival. Attendance at the Darwin Waterfront Vietnamese Lantern Festival was strong from both locals and visitors.

    Fund-Raising for Lantern Festival At Bunnings Darwin 2023

    With the valuable support of Bunnings, AVFA hosted a cake and dessert sale at Bunnings Darwin to raise funds for our organization and contribute to the Lantern Festival in September 2023. The activities included fantastic cake and dessert sales to cater to everyone's taste, lucky draws with a chance to win attractive vouchers. In particular, we will also organize lantern-making workshops for children in collaboration with Bunnings, once a month.

    International Women’s Day 2023

    Afternoon tea on 8 March 2023, organized by AVFA to celebrate the International Women’s Day of 2023. The event was proudly sponsored by the NT Government. Despite the small scale, the event created a cozy atmosphere and provided useful information. At the party, AVFA members shared their work experiences and knowledge, as well as their feelings and thoughts about the difficulties in life in Darwin and the Northern Territory in general. The session was also an opportunity for everyone to meet and greet, creating a memorable afternoon.

    Vietnamese Lunar New Year 2023

    We would like to thank everyone who came to participate in AVFA's Tet activities yesterday afternoon, Sunday, January 15, 2022. AVFA members were all very happy when everyone participating felt the cozy atmosphere of the coming Tet. Big thanks to the Hon Ngaree Ah Kit MLA, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Mrs Athina Pascoe-Bell, Mayor City of Palmerston for attending the Tet festival with the Vietnamese community.

    Lantern Festival 2022

    We at AVFA, are delighted to welcome the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Hon Ngaree Ah Kit MLA, to our festival. We are grateful to thank Melaleuca, particularly Mr Kwame Selormey, CEO of Melaleuca, for sponsoring this event. We would also like to thank the Northern Territory Government, Charles Darwin University, and other local businesses for their support of the Lantern Festival. Last but not least, I would like to thank all of the volunteers on behalf of the Australian Vietnamese Family Association for your generous support.

    Senior Month 2022

    In this event, we had several activities for the seniors in Darwin such as promoting the information about benefits, eligibility and how to make the most of them. We also had the entertaining sessions for the seniors to take care of their mental life.

  • It was a great honour for us - the Australian Vietnamese Family Association - to be a part of Harmony day at Palmerston Recreation Centre. We have brought our signature lantern workshop to this big event, and visitors have brought home their handmade colourful miniature lanterns with the help of our beautiful AVFA volunteers. Along with our lantern workshop, Harmony Day was also a huge opportunity for the public to explore the multicultural diversity in Northern Territory via amazing performances from different communities from different countries and cultures.   • We had a fantastic time at the Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival and it was a pleasure to be a part of it for the first time. The festival provided us with an excellent opportunity to introduce the AVFA to a wider audience, and we were thrilled to see so many people taking an interest in what we do. One of the highlights of the event was the chance for our team to share their expertise and show children how to make lanterns. It was wonderful to see the kids' faces light up as they created their own beautiful lanterns to take home. Read more

  • We had an amazing time at the Harmony Soiree organized by Darwin Waterfront and Multicultural Council of the NT on Saturday, 27th May 2023. Australian Vietnamese Family Association Inc (AVFA) was there to join in the festivities and spread the spirit of cultural harmony. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce everyone to the delightful flavors of Vietnamese snacks and coffee. It was a joy to see the smiles on people's faces as they savored the authentic taste of our culture. Read more
